Sneaking a photo: Check-out clerks during a quarter-final game! Three weeks ago today, after a amazing break at home, I found myself en route to beautiful Cordoba, Argentina. A full 24-hour travel day (Raleigh/Durham to Newark, NJ to Lima, Peru to Cordoba, Argentina) brought me to Cordoba just in time for the sunrise on Monday morning, June 23.
It's hard to believe it has only been three weeks here. It is always odd to be in one place for several weeks while on tour, and so much has happened since we arrived! I am here with an entirely different show from my own, filling a spot on this show while my show is on a break from touring. It is an amazing opportunity to experience a different show (and continent, at that!) through what is called "break work," and I feel so fortunate to be here.
That said, the past three weeks have involved getting to know a new cast and crew, learning the choreography of an entire show and new roles within it, opening the show and performing our first week of shows for this tour, exploring Cordoba, enjoying a lot of steak and Malbec, and watching Argentina dominate in the World Cup.
That's right; the World Cup! Here in Argentina, its like the Olympics, the Super Bowl, Christmas, and Easter combined. It is unreal how excited the Argentinian people get for their team, and a fantastic experience to get pulled into it all. In fact, nobody will work during a game in which Argentina is playing. Taxi's won't run; grocery store clerks are crowded around a television instead of at each's respective check-out counter; and because of a game, we couldn't get the local workers necessary to build the ice floor and load in our set in the arena in time to start rehearsals on schedule. Thus, an extra day off for us! Cheers to the World Cup!
Several new, wonderful friends and I took advantage of our extra time off and explored downtown Cordoba the day after arriving. This city is known for having the oldest cathedrals in Argentina, as well as the largest university in Argentina. My photos in the album below include a taste of both, and the dog we named "Sketchy," who followed us around town all day. Enjoy! More tales of this beautiful country to come... :-)
