Thus begins our crazy holiday season schedule; three cities in two weeks with no days off. Hence why I don’t have much to write about the Netherlands… other than my first night’s walk around Utrecht, my first Struepwaffle, the fact that my Line Captain and I set up the boy’s make-up room to look like a grade school classroom (and they KEPT it that way the entire week!), our beautiful company Christmas dinner in an underground restaurant, and the Amsterdam New Year’s Eve fireworks (which I unfortunately watched from my hotel room window, and fell asleep long before they finished). In Utrecht and Amsterdam we had great audiences, we kept hot chocolate going in a crock-pot in our lady’s makeup room, gifts were constantly passed around, and a small Christmas tree dawned our call board. Yet ultimately, it was hard for everyone to be working so constantly and hard throughout the holiday season. We got each other through it, and simply had to remind ourselves every show that we were providing so many children’s Christmas gifts. I don’t know that I’ll have any other paying job that brings me to do that… and with that perspective, it is pretty cool. I titled this post “round one,” because I know I didn’t see the Netherlands properly, so put simply, I will just have to come back.
